Field goal percentage measures how often a player makes their shots. While it does not distinguish between twos and threes, it remains a fundamental efficiency metric. Players who score at high volume with elite FG% are the most efficient scorers in the game. Players like Giannis Antetokounmpo and Nikola Jokic exemplify what it means to lead in this category.
League average is roughly 47%. Above 50% is very good for a perimeter player. Centers and power forwards who score at the rim typically have higher FG% (55%+). Context of shot selection matters enormously.
Without a scoring minimum, role players who only take open layups would dominate. The 15 PPG threshold ensures we measure efficiency among legitimate scorers who face defensive attention.
