The Era Adjuster translates any historical player's stats to what they would look like in every NBA era. Michael Jordan's 30.1 PPG in the slower Jordan-era (pace 92) becomes roughly 32.7 PPG when adjusted to the modern 2020s pace (100). Conversely, a modern scorer's numbers would deflate when placed in the high-pace 1960s.
This is the ultimate cross-era debate tool. Instead of comparing raw numbers that ignore context, see exactly how pace differences inflate or deflate counting stats. Percentage stats like FG% and FT% remain unchanged since they are already rate-based.
Pace is the estimated number of possessions per 48 minutes. Higher pace means more possessions, which means more opportunities to score, rebound, and assist. Without pace adjustment, comparing Wilt Chamberlain (pace 118) to Tim Duncan (pace 91) is inherently unfair.
This tool only adjusts for pace differences. Rule changes (hand-checking, zone defense, three-point line) also impact stats but are much harder to quantify. Consider pace adjustment a necessary first step in cross-era comparisons.
Percentages are already rate stats. A 50% field goal shooter shoots 50% regardless of how many shots they take. Only counting stats (points, rebounds, assists, steals, blocks) scale with pace.
