WAR (Wins Above Replacement), Win Shares, and VORP (Value Over Replacement Player) are advanced metrics that attempt to quantify a player's total contribution in a single number. This tool provides estimates based on available box score statistics.
These metrics aim to answer the question: how much does this player help their team win? By combining scoring, playmaking, rebounding, defense, and efficiency into composite numbers, you can compare players across different roles and positions on equal footing.
WAR estimates how many additional wins a player provides compared to a “replacement level” player (a freely available bench player). A WAR of 10+ is MVP-caliber, 5-10 is All-Star level.
These are estimates based on box score stats. True WAR and VORP calculations from sites like Basketball Reference incorporate play-by-play data and adjusted plus-minus which are not available here. Our estimates correlate well with official calculations.
